The Interactive Word Search allows you to create dynamic activities in which students must locate words related to the course content. Using clues, definitions, or key concepts, participants will have to find the correct word within the word search.
This activity combines content review with gamification elements to offer a more dynamic and participatory learning experience.
The student receives a clue or description related to a concept they must identify. Next, they must locate the corresponding word within the word search.
When a word is found correctly, the student can continue with the next challenge until completing the activity.
Game settings
From the Word Search editor, you can customize the appearance of the activity and define how the game will be played.
Cover
You have the usual customization options:
Color: Choose one of the template colors and configure its opacity. You can also choose any other color using the custom color configurator.
Gradient: You can choose one of the template gradients and control its opacity and angle. You can also choose any other gradient using the custom gradient configurator.
Image: If you decide to use an image as the background of the face, you will have the same configuration options as for the image element. See the related article for more information.
Title
You can add text as a title or introductory text that will appear on the game cover.
Choose the title format from different heading levels (H2, H3, H4) or use the Text format.
Gamification
In this section, you can configure the elements that will be part of the game dynamics.
Time: Enable this option to set a maximum time to complete the game. The remaining time may affect the final score through a time bonus. If time runs out before the activity is completed, the game will end. The maximum time that can be configured is 60 minutes.
Points: Enable this option to set the maximum score the student can earn in the game. The maximum value they can earn is 5,000 points.
Lifelines: Allows you to set the number of lifelines available to the student during the game. Lifelines can be used as help to find the words. You can have a maximum of 3 lifelines.
Words per game
You can define how many words will appear in each game. If you define more words than will be displayed in the activity, all of them will be included in a word bank and selected randomly for each game.
For example, if you configure 3 words per game, the student will have to find three words to complete the game.
Words
When adding a word to the activity, you can configure different elements to help the student identify it and reinforce learning.
Word: Enter the word the student must locate in the word search.
Clue: Add a clue or description to help the student identify the word. You can use a definition, a characteristic, or any other information related to the concept.
Image: Add an image related to the word. This image can serve as visual support to help the student identify the concept.
Explanation: Add feedback or an explanation to be displayed when the student finds the word correctly. You can use this field to expand on the information, reinforce the concept, or provide additional data related to the answer.
The Interactive Word Search allows you to display custom feedback after the student finds a correct answer.
This feedback can be used to expand on or reinforce the information related to the concept found, providing additional explanations, reinforcement information, interesting facts, or supplementary data, as well as recommendations and best practices related to the topic.
Thanks to the combination of clues, word searches, scoring, time, and feedback, this activity transforms a review exercise into an interactive challenge that encourages participation and content retention.
Editing the Word Search game in accessible mode
In this version, the word search dynamics are adapted to facilitate use with technology. Instead of the traditional grid, the user must guess each word based on the image and the description provided by the interactive content editor.
After answering each word, feedback with information about the status of the answers will be displayed, indicating the number of correct and incorrect answers. If the interactive content includes gamification options, these will also be displayed in the feedback.
Add alternative text and a long description to the images, both the cover image and the images associated with each word. These fields allow you to provide additional information about the visual content and make it easier to understand for users who use assistive technologies.
